Happy Easter

Happy Easter dear readers. Frodo here. Although the world is on hold – Easter is still here. So we may celebrate differently- but we still celebrate.

And of course, part of our celebration includes the obligatory rabbit ears.

As usual, I was cooperative. You could put almost anything on my head, and if it involves treats, I am more than willing to cooperate. Bunny ears don’t really bother me – I was more annoyed with the brushing that took place pre photo shoot.

Her highness didn’t even bother to attempt to get any individual shots with the beatnik – she knew it would be futile. Here is our series of shots taken together. At first, he is annoyed:

Then he appears indignant. This is coming from a guy who rolls in leaves, becomes covered in them and is quite happy with his appearance.

Then he puts on the sad expression.

And FINALLY, he puts his ears up and manages to appear at least moderately interested.

I should add that we were getting treats and were playing with toys in between every second shot of the 539 photos taken.

So. You would THINK that would suffice. But no. Clearly her highness has WAY too much time on her hands. She decided to do an Easter selfie. The one very interesting part of this gong show was the fact that the beatnik was more interested this time. Perhaps because he saw her highness wearing the ears, he thought it was now fashionable to wear them. You will note his expression is happier in these. Or at least somewhat happier. In the first one he is quite happy to see her looking as ridiculous as we do.

In this one, he is even giving her a kiss.

Here he is actually smiling!

And here he looks at the camera – and smirks…

All I can say is I’m glad no one watched this. Mind you – we are now publishing the results for all the world to see. This is what quarantine will do to you!

Today we’ll get some extra walks and perhaps will have the chance to find some tiny balls in the woods – left by the Easter bunny. Not if her highness has anything to say about it though. She did say we would play find-the- treats hidden around the house. Probably a bit healthier than actual bunny balls.

Anyway – enjoy your Easter – and take a minute to reach out to family and friends who cannot gather with you this year. Yes – things are different – but different can still be good.

Have a good one. Peace and paws up. Stay safe.

Mish mash

Greetings readers. Frodo here. Today our blog is what one might call a mish mash. Nothing particularly earth shattering has occurred- which given the current state of the world, I suppose that is a good thing.

You saw her highness’s efforts with regard to the tatort challenge. No doubt we will have more treats surrounding us in the coming days. Which is quite fine by me.

She also attempted to do a “selfie” with us. The word circus comes to mind. The beatnik did not want to look at the camera, and yours truly kept barking out in protest. Because I knew she had treats in her pocket – and I WAS sitting so what MORE did she want? Anyway, here are some results from the 3749 photos taken.

This photo is a strange angle. AND I might add, she had yours truly in a strangle hold. I look like I’m happy, but I’m trying to breathe.

In this one, the beatnik and I are bird watching instead of looking at the camera.

In this one…well….this is what we were thinking….

Then we all decided to study the treat on the ground for this one…

Given the most recent forecast about social isolation, I have a feeling there will be more selfies in our future. Heaven help us.

What else is new? Ah. The propane incident. The other day a truck arrived from the company that delivers the propane for our fireplace. Her highness cranked open the kitchen window to find out why he was here. Of course she could not hear a WORD he was saying because yours truly was throwing myself against the front door and shouting out loud warnings to the intruder. And interestingly, the beatnik joined in as well. Her highness ended up putting us in the garage so she could open the door to talk to the man – at a proper distance. It seems our tank was listing to one side, and a delivery man from the week before noted the problem – so this man was here to fix the tilt. That was all well and good. EXCEPT her highness did not know how to relight the fireplace after the work would be done. The man said he could not come in to do it – but tried to explain the steps to her highness – over the sounds of my barking from the garage. Her highness doesn’t fear many things. She is not bothered by bears. She loves flying. She doesn’t love snakes or spiders or mice – but doesn’t have to call in reinforcements should one appear. But propane…well I should mention that we have a charcoal barbecue because of some strange event having to do with an ex husband and a propane grill – that was well before my time. Her highness fears propane. So imagine her having to relight the fireplace. We were sequestered in another room and instructed to run for help should an explosion occur. Thankfully we did NOT need to perform a “Lassie” and after a tense half hour ( which included a call to the propane company after the repairman left) we heard shouts of joy when we again had fire. Like some prehistoric cavewoman – her highness did the fire dance of happiness. The beatnik just stared at her.

Today is Good Friday – a very holy day before Easter Sunday. I understand that it is a day of fasting. And no meat. Well that’s all well and good for the beatnik. He won’t care. But me? I’ll starve without eating my full meals. Thankfully, I eat fish and sweet potatoes – so I don’t have to worry about the meatless part. And honestly, I think dogs are exempt from the fasting part. It will be good for her highness. She could use a day of fasting after her many recent trips to the refrigerator.

Yikes. I JUST realized what I said. Sunday is EASTER. And you know what THAT means. We can only pray that she can’t find those blasted rabbit ears….I know she hasn’t gone to the Dollar Store – BUT there is a big bin in the garage with “apparel.” Excuse me while I hide….

Have a good one. Peace and paws up. Stay safe.

Distances. And farts.

Howdy blog readers. Elroy here. Well you can see from the photo that boredom strikes again in our household. Um. I didn’t see photos of any readers doing this with their dogs. I’m thinking you must not be as bored as we are….

I hope you are all staying safe and distant. It’s so important – and as our Premier here in Nova Scotia has so eloquently said, “Stay the blazes home!”

As we know, the Boss maintains social distancing by barking at anyone he encounters. And you know – we canines have excellent mathematical skills and can easily calculate distances without a measuring tape. For example, we were out for a walk the other morning and while yours truly was on leash, the Boss was free. He can be let off leash because he is generally obedient. Note I said generally. One thing he does that drives her highness as crazy as a bunch of wet cats is his “sampling” of wildlife byproducts. In other words – he likes to hunt out poop. Rabbit poop, pheasant poop, goose poop – according to him, each one has its own delectable palate. When he suddenly picks up the scent, he can’t wait to find his treasure. And when he stops, her highness knows he has found his prize. Of course she shouts “leave it.” And that’s when the Boss’ distance calculation skills are put to the test. Can he consume his newfound snack BEFORE her highness races to stop him? Is his distance far enough away?

If he calculates that the distance is not enough, he leaves his tender morsel. But if he sees the distance is far enough, it’s munch time. Then he bolts so she can’t catch him. He has distance calculation skills down to an art.

Hey do you know what day it is? Probably not if you’re not working. But I mean do you know what April 8 is? It is…..get ready….Dog Farting Awareness Day! I’m not kidding!! And did you know that some scientists have studied dog farts?! Her highness wants to know who funded the research. Here’s an article all about the science of dog farts.

https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/dog-spies/things-to-know-on-dog-farting-awareness-day/

I’d like to see the human who did the sniff rating introduced at a party. And what is it you do? Why I’m a dog farts Odor Judge. Wonder where you train for that.

The other night while we were all relaxing in the DFZ, SOMEBODY let out a series of audible farts. Her highness looked up from her book to see where the offending toots originated. Because neither I nor the Boss moved she tried to localize where the sound originated. She couldn’t figure it out. And we weren’t saying anything.

Hey – I just realized from the title of this blog that the subjects go together! And I wasn’t even trying to be funny. Anyway , I hope you let loose and enjoy the holiday!

Have a good one. Peace and paws up. Stay safe.

Entertainment. And a challenge.

Cheery morning greetings my friends. Frodo here. We have an incredibly busy day ahead of us – following her highness wherever she goes. Although lately, a good portion of her time is spent on the sofa. Or standing in front of the refrigerator. Her time on the sofa is often spent swirling through social media. Which ended up resulting in a rather odd activity for us canines yesterday….

Her highness was looking at Instagrab. That’s what I call it as it grabs countless minutes and you don’t know WHERE they went. Anyway, she “follows” multiple pages – most of which are dog related. Surprise. Surprise. And she came across a photo which captured her forever wandering attention. It was a photo of a dog. Surrounded by treats.

Well. She had to explore this activity further. And she came across something called the Tatort Challenge. She couldn’t find an English language explanation of the task – but from what she was able to gather, it requires putting your dog in a position, surrounding him with kibble or treats and taking his photo. I gather the outline is like a crime scene outline. Here is a video depicting dogs attempting this task.

https://youtu.be/_9dxnAuU6y4

So. Need I tell you what happened next? OF COURSE she had to see if we could meet the challenge. Now she knew I could be obedient and stay in place – BUT could I resist the urge to sample a treat while she took photos? It turned out I could:

And bonus. You get all the treats when you are finished.

So the next question. Could the beatnik stay in place. Now we know he wouldn’t really care about the kibble – BUT could he stay still long enough for her to surround him and to take the photo.

Guess what? He passed too!

Next she will try to get us to stay in other positions. At least that’s what she said yesterday. Although with her wandering attention, who knows WHAT will happen next! In the meantime, I encourage you to try the challenge and post your photos on Facebook under our blog. We would LOVE to see what you can do.And let’s face it – you have lots of time… And if you don’t have a dog, perhaps you could try it with your cat. Good luck with that.

Have a good one. Peace and paws up. Stay safe.

A Canine Service Announcement

Yo. Elroy here. So we’ve had some pretty wild weather here the past two days. Even wild for me. It was raining. And blowing. The Boss did NOT want to go out. He was frozen in the doorway. Her highness had to put him on a leash so he would even move. As soon as he pooped, she let him free and he raced back to the front door. I was pokey the first day but by the second day I produced almost instantaneous results. Hopefully today will be sunny.

So now for my serious message….

As everybody knows – the world is in a mess right now. Humans are sick. Humans are scared. And humans are dying.

And boy oh boy if humans watch the news it can get down right depressing. I’m mean this is a worse tragedy than chewed up pillowcases. By the way – her highness now has a matching pair. But that’s another story.

Yes. The news is not good. Not good at all. And it makes one very sad. And feeling helpless. With no end in sight. So. Here’s my suggestion. Don’t watch the news for hours on end. Watching just makes you feel worse. It’s kind of like sticking your hand on a hot surface. Would you keep doing that over and over again? Thinking it has instantaneously cooled down?! I hope not!!! Sure – you should know if some change has been happening in your community – but trust me – if something super good happens – you will quickly find out about it. For now – and for the next while – the news will NOT be good. So why torture yourself? Instead – do one thing that can make a big difference in this disaster. Do nothing. Go nowhere. Stay home. Play with your dog. We’ve been waiting for this pandemic all our lives.

We do know, though, that not everyone has the luxury of staying home. And much as you may feel it’s horrible to be in hibernation – it IS a LUXURY. Be thankful for those folks who are allowing you to enjoy your luxury – like those who work in food services – from grocery store clerks to truck drivers who deliver the food. And of course – the many medical professionals.

I fully advocate an “ignorance is bliss” motto for the next few weeks. Heck – I advocate that all the time. Ever see me training in obedience? The less you know – the more treats you get. The Boss taught me that.

Staying at home and staying away from others will not “cure” the virus. It will slow the spread. And it will buy the scientists time. Time to find a super quick test to see if someone has or has had the virus and time to develop a vaccine. I know there are some super smart humans out there – the Border Collies of the human race who WILL find a solution. But just like you can’t train a Picard all the exercises to compete in an obedience trial in a week or two – you can’t expect a quick answer to this pandemic. The scientists need time. And YOU can give it to them.

So that’s my speech. OK. OK. Frodo helped. But the ignorance is bliss part was all mine….

Have a good one. Peace and paws up. And stay safe.

A River. And some fools.

Frodo here. I am here to proclaim that her highness is officially losing the few marbles she has left. Yesterday she did something that made us realize she is spending too much time with us…

Yesterday morning began like most. She arises from her bed when one of us breathes on her face. First thing she does is she goes to the kitchen to give me one of my pills – which I am supposed to take an hour before meals. She then gets dressed, takes us for our walk, feeds us and has her breakfast while she reads the paper. Since she has retired, if she then goes to shower, we know that she is going out. Before this virus, she might have gone out to meet a friend for coffee, she might have gone to get groceries, she might have browsed some shops – anyway we knew she would be gone for a few hours.

But since this pandemic, she goes nowhere. Showering is only scheduled if she has a FaceTime chat – so she looks presentable. She does not go out.

So imagine our surprise when she announced yesterday that she was going out for the day. She had her breakfast – and announced she was taking a shower. She came out all fresh looking- except for her hair – there is no help there- and announced she was leaving. She gave us treats, grabbed her purse and her keys and went into the garage. We heard the garage door go up and we settled down for guard duty. We heard the car start up and we heard her drive out. We listened as the car went up the driveway.

Within 10 seconds, we heard the garage door open and the car pull in. She raced in the house and shouted “April Fools!” The beatnik just looked at me. I’m telling you – she’s losing it.

Last night after supper we decided to go for a walk. It had rained earlier in the day but had stopped so we were ready for some fresh air. We trotted up the driveway and around the curve. And that’s when we spotted “them.” Two people on the road. Walking two dogs – a husky and a fuzzy Bichon-like dog . And both dogs were loose. It was one of those slow motion moments one sees in a movie…

Of course, yours truly HAD to protect my home turf. I immediately exploded into a cross between Cujo and a tornado. Well. The husky, whose name we quickly learned was River, saw that as an invitation to visit. His social interpretation skills are clearly lacking. And obviously he didn’t know about social distancing. He dashed down the driveway toward me, the leaping Picard and her highness who was holding our leashes as if we were about to run into the path of an oncoming freight train. River’s human shouted his name repeatedly- but he was clearly interested in meeting us. Especially me – because he had probably never met a Cujnado before. Her highness was frozen saying “it will probably be OK.” Which was ridiculous- because who knew what might happen. River got close enough to sniff at me while my tail was spinning like a clock whose spring had broken. As soon as River’s human got close enough to grab him, he hightailed it back for the road. The human said something that appeared to be apologetic in nature, but her highness couldn’t even hear him because I was still making enough racket to wake the dead. Meanwhile the beatnik was leaping up and down on all fours. Squeaking that high pitched thing that he does.

Her highness caught her breath and told us to sit. It is very hard to sit when one’s adrenaline is rushing. But we did because there were treats. She then said “Easy” as we began to walk toward the road. Like slingshots, we both bolted toward the end of our leashes and I began my frenzy again. I couldn’t even SEE the dogs, but they left their scent behind. My inner hound dog went into overdrive. And the beatnik followed suit.

Needless to say, our walk was much shorter than planned. Her highness feared yours truly was going to have a cardiac arrest. And she could barely hold onto the beatnik. So home we went. I am frankly surprised that neighbors didn’t come out of their homes to see what the racket was. I put on QUITE the performance. I think her highness just needs to carry a grooming tool along on our walks. That would make me settle down quickly….maybe.

Have a good one. Peace and paws up. Stay safe.

A serious post

Frodo here. Today I cannot believe the topic that I am advocating. There is real irony that I should be discussing something which I personally detest. But these are unique times. The topic? Grooming.

On Sunday after her highness finished her breakfast, she looked at yours truly and announced “ you are a mess. You need grooming.” I looked at her and immediately thought the following:

Honestly – she is….to be perfectly blunt – a train wreck. Her attire consists of the same two pairs of sweat pants. When one is being worn, the other is being washed to extricate the patterns of licked yogurt on the legs – and the collection of dog hair. Those pants have traveled repeatedly lately – on a path to the refrigerator. Causing the drawstring waist to expand ever-so-subtly- every few days.

Currently she is able to hide the expanding waistband with one of her large sweatshirts. Clearly panic will be setting in soon as the temperatures rise and she will not be able to hide behind oversized sweatshirts. She’ll be ordering new oversized T-shirt’s – online of course.

Meanwhile her hair – well let’s just say I saw her eyeing some of my barrettes the other day. She won’t be able to hide behind a wool hat for long. This is going to be very interesting. There is a small blessing in that no one can visit. She’ll be ordering her groceries on-line so only the delivery clerk will get a glimpse of her appearance. No one will recognize her by the summer.

But back to my own grooming. When she announced her plans to “fluffen” me – I immediately hightailed it for other parts of the house. She chased me – trying to entice me with treats. She knows my weakness. I succumbed.

Now I had been groomed before she went away – and I have been groomed since she returned. BUT – my partner in crime – the beatnik – has been styling my coat lately – leaving a rather matted mess. Not to mention that we PONs do get mats no matter what – in some rather tender locations. So I must confess, I was feeling some knotty areas myself. I’m not talking about real mats – but more what I refer to as twisties- little tangled bits – usually very close to the skin.

When I am being groomed, if there was an Academy Award for Best Canine Actor – I would win. I have perfected heavy panting, squeaking and squirming – to an art form. And just as you think I might surely die from my agony – if you pull out a treat- my acting immediately stops. Immediately. I am fed probably the equivalent of an extra meal when I am groomed. So that makes it almost worth the performance.

But all jesting aside – I do have a rather serious note. Her highness is reasonably good at grooming me. BUT – we have many PON friends who are quite used to having their grooming needs met by a groomer. Regularly. However, during the current virus outbreak, groomers have closed their shops. Meaning a different type of outbreak – invasion of the mats and twisties. If we dogs get too many mats – or even twisties – it can actually become very uncomfortable. Now this is also true for other breeds – this is hardly an isolated PON problem. Those doodle dogs have wicked coats – which sometimes mat so desperately that they need to be sheared like a sheep.

So I have found a couple of videos if you find you are having a mat outbreak. Please do NOT ignore your dog’s grooming needs until this pandemic is over. Not unless you want an uncomfortable dog and you like the sheared sheep look.

Have a good one. Peace and paws up. Please stay home if you are able. If you are a front line worker – we thank you for all you do. Stay safe everyone.

Self isolation. Day 14.

Yo everybody. Elroy here.

Well it’s official. After today, her highness is officially free. To go nowhere. And of course, that’s absolutely fine with us. Her self isolation is officially over – and really – it was probably technically over on Friday – when she got the results of her virus test. It was thankfully negative.

I was pretty concerned that if it was positive, she was going to have to sequester herself from us. Not that we canines can get the virus- but still we would want to be safe. The Boss just rolled his eyes when I told him my concern.

We had snow the other day, but it was quite warm yesterday- causing much of the snow to melt. The Boss still got in a few good rolls early in the morning- because it will soon be too late.

I was looking at photos and just last week there was a lot of ice on the lake. But now it is pretty much gone. And much to her highness’ shock, I decided to walk right in the water yesterday- even though I was on a leash. It happened so quickly- her highness tried to stop me but I walked right in. Mind you – I didn’t go far – just up to my belly. Frankly, it was rather chilly – so I was quite happy to come right out when instructed to do so. Meanwhile, the Boss just stared at me. He doesn’t go in there in the heat of the summer – so the idea of polar dipping was totally crazy in his opinion.

Besides numerous walks and lots of treats, and the occasional short car ride to the mailboxes at the end of the road, things at our abode have been pretty quiet. I probably shouldn’t say anything, but her highness hasn’t really accomplished a whole lot during her hibernation . You two leggeds are pretty funny – you complain that you don’t have “time” to do certain undesirable tasks – like organizing and shredding old bills and receipts. Or cleaning out closets. But now that you have the time – well – let’s just say I haven’t seen any big projects started around here. Or small projects for that matter. Wait – her highness DID finish this hooked rug thing that she was working on for like 2 years. But get this – it’s a rug but she won’t put it on the floor! OK- I guess the whole chewing thing with the dining room carpet could be the reason why she won’t put this rug on the floor. I guess she is trainable.

Oh – I almost forgot but I reminded myself when I mentioned chewing. So like when her highness went away for her little trip, she went out and bought new sheets for her bed. So it would be nice for the dog sitter. I mean she figured pillow cases without holes would be a nice touch.

So she’s been back two weeks. And the day before yesterday, while she was taking her shower….SOMEONE put a hole in one of the new pillowcases. I can’t say who it was – but it wasn’t me. Oooooeeee. Her highness was not impressed. But ya know what they say in dog training – ya have to catch us in the act. And whoever did it, was not caught. Wonder who it was…

Time for our walks. And today I’m thinking some Find the Bunny is long overdue. It’s either that, or another round of poke-a-PON….

Have a good one. Peace and paws up. Stay home and stay home.

House Tour. And virus testing…

Frodo here. Self isolation. Day 11. Yesterday her highness left us. Yes. She went out. But before you start shaking your head and screaming “no” – allow me to explain.

We have come to the conclusion that besides direct contact with someone who has the virus, or touching something that is contaminated- one can get “symptoms” of the virus through Facebook. That is correct. If you read too much on Facebook, or really even in the news or on the internet, you can suddenly begin to feel that you have symptoms. Then when you answer the online screening – you find that you should call the health hotline. Even though you basically feel OK, and you have no aches or pains and you have no fever – BUT you WERE out of the country. AND you have a stuffy nose and a cough. Such was the case in our house on Wednesday. To make a rather long story short, her highness needed to go for testing yesterday. She was probably more in a panic over the nasal swap than she was about having the virus. Again – watching videos on the internet does not instill the feeling that having a nasal swab is a joyful experience. Even the nurses who met with her, warned her it could be unpleasant. She braced herself for the sensation that someone was drilling into her brain via her nasal cavity. When they told her to open her eyes and that they were finished, she couldn’t believe it. She has had teeth cleanings that were 100x more uncomfortable.

Anyway, she immediately came home and now she waits for 24-72 hours for the result. She figures it is a win-win situation. Her cough is better than it was the other day. If she has the virus, she thankfully has a mild case. And if she doesn’t, well she doesn’t. Always look at the positives.

In the meantime, we have been hanging out in the house because we got more slushy snow yesterday. So. I had an idea….

Those who are long time readers of the blog, may have an image in your head of what our home looks like. You have certainly seen pictures of the lake – and photos of our trails and our driveway. But, I thought I should give you an inside photo tour of our abode, taken by yours truly. So here we go – in no particular order. And keep in mind – they are from MY point of view…

First stop. The dining room. This is the leg of a chair. Note the teeth marks. Or maybe it’s just normal wear. Sure it is.

Here is the Kuranda dog bed in the dining room. It has no teeth marks on the legs. They are made of stainless steel. Could be why… Ordinarily one might find enough dog hair under there to make a chihuahua. But her highness vacuumed before I started taking photos.

Here is a goose decoy in the dining room. Nobody has chewed him. Yet.

Um. Here’s another goose. He HAS been chewed…

Now I’m in the kitchen. With my favorite location. In the fridge. You will note the box of wine that was delivered the other day. I think her highness has had the odd glass. In the drawer are carrots and potatoes. Carrots for me and the beatnik. I often get parts of his because I eat mine quickly and he is the world’s sloppiest eater. Anyway, I LOVE what Viktor called the “buffet review.” It’s sticking your head in the refrigerator when the door is momentarily left open.

Here’s the gate to the DFZ.

We have been allowed in there more often recently, UNLESS yours truly jumps on the furniture and starts digging for a comfortable position OR unless the beatnik goes out and brings this in:

Then we have an immediate eviction.

Here I am in the DFZ with the vacuum cleaner. It is frequently out.

Here we have a couple of well behaved dogs in the DFZ. They are about 2.5 feet tall. Almost life sized. Well a small life sized Saint Bernard and I don’t know what breed the other guy is. Her highness collects dog stuff. They are pretty quiet.

Here’s a hooked rug in the DFZ that took her highness YEARS and YEARS to make. We are not supposed to go near it. Note the dog hair on it…

Here’s her highness’ slippers. In front of the sofa. I’m thinking it’s about time she splurge for a new pair..

Oh I forgot to show you the deck that is off the dining room. You will note the olfactory art on the glass. The beatnik was practicing his alphabet. It’s the letter “I”.

Here we are in the front hall. When you come in, there is a maple syrup bucket that holds walking sticks and these rain stick things. I think her highness got those to try and trick me that it’s raining out. Her sense of humor is odd.

Now I’m going in the bedroom. And I’m going to do a magic trick. Here’s the pony sized crate. With the mat. And no dog.

But remove the mat and voila!

OK. That’s enough for today. I didn’t go downstairs to the rec room or other bedrooms- I’ll leave that for another day. And I didn’t take photos in the bathroom. I mean really- who wants to see a toilet. Or toilet paper. Although I hear that stuff is pretty collectible these days….

Have a good one. Peace and paws up. And STAY HOME.

In home travels

Frodo here. OK. We love her. But we are becoming exhausted with her highness being home 24/7. We normally enjoy a lot of napping during the day – but now we are continually awakened from our slumber. Because we must follow her wherever she goes. No sooner do we get comfortable in the kitchen, then she goes to the bathroom. Of course we must wait outside the bathroom door. And if she’s in there too long (which in dog time is over 2 minutes), I may resort to barking to prompt her to speed things up. When she emerges, we travel to her next destination. Currently, the gates to the DFZ have been open when she is in there. So we are allowed in – past the border patrol. As long as we behave. It never fails that when the beatnik goes out of the DFZ and returns with his large Jolly Ball, that we are escorted back to the dining room. He has been told repeatedly that he is not allowed to bring that ball into the DFZ. Still – he tries.

If her highness decides to take a nap herself, we must of course, accompany her. Ordinarily the beatnik would lounge in his pony sized crate. But he can’t. Because that new mat is still inside. Yesterday we witnessed the following… He walked into his crate. He looked at the mat and immediately walked out. He then turned around and went back in. He stood for 20 seconds in his crate, staring at the mat. He came back out and went to sleep in the small hallway between the bedroom and the master bathroom.

Her highness was surprised to find him sleeping there the other day – and then she realized it’s like the area of his crate. But he can’t sleep in his crate. Because of the mat. If she takes the mat out, and puts it next to the crate, he will go in. How many weeks has this been going on?

Yesterday we didn’t take a long walk, because we had snow. When we first went out in the morning, it was wet, slushy flakes. And we know how much I adore wet and slushy. Walking as far as the road to get the paper was plenty far enough for yours truly. When her highness attempted to walk us down the road, I trudged along for about 10 feet before I pooped. Her highness announced we could go back and the sudden buoyancy in my steps was evident as I sped down the driveway. Although I didn’t want to be outside, it didn’t stop me from protesting when I was put in the house while the beatnik went down the trail to the lake to “do his thing.” I didn’t want to be out there – but I didn’t want them out there either.

Today we have sunshine in the forecast. Which is brilliant and we must take advantage of it – because there is snow in the forecast for tomorrow. But not to worry – this too shall pass.

You know – it’s a line you two leggeds need to keep repeating to yourselves. Over and over again…This too shall pass. This too shall pass…..

Have a good one. Peace and paws up. Stay home!
